The holidays are fun, but for parents, they can also entail finding things for their kids to do when school is out. Crafting is a great way for kids to have fun and be creative while also learning how to give. The best thing? These easy projects are more than simply things to do; they can also be transformed into gifts for friends and family that come from the heart, which makes the holidays even more special.
Ornaments made using homemade dough & handprints
Items needed:
- 2 cups of flour
- 1 cup of salt
- 1 cup of warm water
- Rolling pin
- Optional: cookie cutters
- Paints or pens
- String or ribbon
How to do it:
- Combine the flour, salt, and water until a dough forms. Knead until the dough is smooth.
- Make the dough about 1/2 inch thick.
- To produce a handprint, push your child’s hand firmly into the dough.
- Cut around the print in a circle or a form that fits the season.
- Make a hole at the top with a straw so you can hang it.
- Let it air dry for a few days or bake it at 250°F (120°C) for 2–3 hours until it is hard.
- After it has cooled, let the kids paint or decorate their ornament.
- Tip: Write the year on the ornament so you may keep it for a long time.
Gift idea: These ornaments are great gifts for grandparents or other close family members. They are personal, meaningful, and full of love.
